Alpha briefly peers out of a window while sitting at one of the tables in her café, before fixating her gaze on a pistol in her hands. She then sighs and moves her gaze to a framed note that was left pinned to her door by someone she seems to know. Her thoughts are interrupted by Ojisan entering the café and greeting her, before he takes a seat. Alpha takes her place behind the counter in order to make Ojisan a coffee, while Ojisan makes small talk about the gun on the table he is now sitting at. Alpha reveals that it was a gift from owner, and she doesn't particularly see it as a weapon, but rather a treasure.
The chapter starts with Takahiro at Café Alpha, chatting with Alpha over a cup of coffee. The conversation turns from small talk into the story of how Takahiro met the Osprey while searching for clams in Higata. As he was stretching, there was a large splash in front of him, and upon investigation of the scene, he saw the Osprey perched upon a rock near the shore holding a fish. After the Osprey flashed a fang-filled grin Takahiro took off running home, and curled up under his covers awake for the remainder of the night. Alpha is surprised at first, but tells Takahiro what she knows of the Osprey (much of which had been passed down to her from Owner).

In the next panels, the story cuts to Ojisan sitting outside on the café's patio staring at the evening sky, while Alpha brings the two of them more coffee. After a bit more chatting Alpha goes to get her gekkin, and just as she is about to start playing Takahiro shows up. The remainder of the chapter consists of Alpha playing her gekkin, while Ojisan ponders about how often he forgets that Alpha is not human.
The two notice it begin to rain lightly, and Takahiro rushes home on his bike - only to be caught out in a downpour. Taking refuge in a storage shed along the side of the road, Takahiro finds himself cold and alone - until he is comforted in the warm embrace of the Osprey. As he is cradled in her arms, he falls asleep.

Takahiro then awakes in the morning in the arms of someone new - Alpha, who had found him with dry clothes in the storage shed. Takahiro recounts what had happened that night to Alpha, who discovers a long hair belonging to the Osprey on Takahiro's head. The chapter ends with the two recollecting the experience, and Alpha telling Takahiro to thank the Osprey next time he sees her (should that ever happen before he becomes an adult).

This chapter takes place within and around Café Alpha. The first portion of the chapter takes place within the café, while the second portion takes place outside on the café's patio. There is a panel where Alpha appears to be in the field next to the café and another panel where she appears to be sitting on a telephone pole surrounded by sea, but it is unlikely that she is physically at those locations while playing her gekkin.
The beginning of this chapter primarily takes place within and around Café Alpha, with a flashback to Takahiro collecting clams in the Higata mudflats. Later on, Takahiro leaves Café Alpha, and takes refuge from the rain in a storage shed on the side of the road.

Several reoccurring motifs appear in the very first chapter of the manga. All of these motifs are seen throughout the manga, but especially around the café where this chapter takes place. The fish weathervane, rubber plant, and fish decorations are all relatively common sightings in the café.
